Podcast and a Programming Note

Recorded a podcast Wednesday, so check it out.

Also, I’ve been buried in writing the RB section for the RW Fantasy Football mag, but I promise I’ll pick up the content soon, starting with an article Thursday. Also, if you haven’t already, start following me on Twitter. I’ve found it to be quite cathartic when it comes to Brian Sabean.

I just cannot do it, man. I drew my line in the sand a while back–no Facebook, no Twitter, none of that shit, ever. I mean, I grew up with this internet stuff, I put myself through school in the mid-90s as one of a group of the first six students hired by the UW to provide dedicated tech support for network hardware and applications to the campus community, and I actually remember the pre-Netscape 1.0 days, believe it or not (as well as when FTP and gopher were actually used extensively, and when Usenet was a reasonably intelligent forum before being razed to the ground overnight when AOL finally gave their users access). So it’s not a technical issue. It’s just a lot of this new stuff is so intrinsically shallow and egocentric that I’m adamantly opposed to it on principle. This is not to say that you are in any way guilty of the same infractions I imagine most “Twitterers” commit daily, but the medium itself _is_ inane, root and branch, and beyond salvation. If Twitter and its glorification of the banal utterances of out-and-out simpletons represents the best that the 21st century has to offer, then let me start building a bridge backward to the 20th.

Of course, I’ll still be checking in here pretty much daily.

I hear you. I don’t use Facebook. And the general thought of everyone knowing what I’m currently doing is actually kind of a nightmare to me…But at this point, especially someone in the writing business, joining Twitter is almost a necessity. And there’s also a lot of good coming from the medium – take sports for example. The ability for a beat writer to immediately update why someone left the game (and the extent of the injury) is a great advancement. And it’s not like that sort of writing truly requires a full column or anything anyway. Again, I hear you, but like most things – there’s bad, but there’s also good if you find it.

Jose Contreras or Kerry Wood? I know, my team stinks.

First off, that question is in no way a reflection of having a bad team. Anyway, I’ll say Kerry Wood, but it’s a close call and not an answer I feel overly strong about.

hmmm, interesting. I was leaning towards Contreras, dude has somehow been dominant thus far, and phi is a good team, and who doesn’t want to believe lidge is done? I appreciate your thoughts. I will consider this for today.

When is the new Scoop coming out?

I hear you. Contreras has been dominating this year – and there’s no fluke about his performance based on the peripherals. He’s also on the better team and easier league. I just think Wood’s job security is much stronger. Then again, he’s a health risk and a trade candidate. And you’re probably right that Lidge is done. Again, it’s close for me, and you might have persuaded me the other way. Go with your gut.

New Scoop will be up today/tonight.
