I like the Steelers (-7.5 at home against the Browns) in a teaser this week, but don’t feel too confident about any other teams to tease. I may take the under in the Thursday night game (36.5) and tack on an extra seven points. I also like the moneylines on some road dogs this week. Green Bay is +5 (+190 moneyline) at San Francisco, New Orleans is a whopping +265 at Dallas (remember people, Brees is better than Romo), and Denver is +315 at San Diego which seems like a bit much to me (so does the 9 points). And actually, in keeping with the wagering theme of this week, I could very easily see the Rams (+265) rallying at home and taking down the Bears and their inept offense come Monday night.
Some thoughts from last night’s game. . .
I had completely written off the Eagles when McNabb went down, but they still have some life. Jeff Garcia was a great quarterback four years ago and he impressed Monday. However, the Eagles are going to be underdogs in their last three games of the season and opened as 1-point underdogs at Washington next week (although look for that to change).
I probably should’ve gone with my first instinct to draft Brian Westbrook instead of Julius Jones this year. Oops.
I personally think that Tony Kornheiser is significantly more annoying in the booth than Joe Theisman. I think Dennis Miller was more knowledgeable than Tony. That said, Theisman had the line of the night, when the Panthers got to first and goal in the final minute (I’m paraphrasing here) “The Panthers have four or five plays to try and get the ball in the endzone.” Umm, pretty sure they have three plays, four at most to try and get six here, Joe.
Steve Smith didn’t have a huge game, but he is still the best receiver in the game and one of the most fun to watch. He should be the top fantasy receiver taken next year, as he should have been this year.
DeAngelo Williams showed that he belongs alongside Maroney, Addai and Norwood as a rookie back who has shared carries with a significantly less talented veteran. Running backs have the shortest lifespans of any player in the NFL, and all of pro sports and smart GMs should never spend good money on backs with more than 1,000 career carries, let alone ones with 2,000 (e.g. Edge James).
The running storyline that Philadelphia fans boo got old in a hurry. Wow, listen to them boo, these Philly fans sure are great! The fact that they cheered when Jeff Garcia got knocked down in the 3rd quarter was despicable. The man was having himself a great game, and these fools were still clamoring for Feely. Trust me, as someone who has been tossed from multiple sports venues, I’m all for booing and heckling, but at least be smart about it. Many Philly fans appear to be quite proud about their rich tradition of being obnoxious and certainly can’t let a good game from Garcia ruin their fun.
