Bet On It

By Dalton Del Don

Last week I went 3-1, winning my best bet. I’m 5-3 during the playoffs, with a 1-1 record on best bets. Onto the Championship Round picks:

Ravens +7.5 at PATRIOTS

GIANTS (Best Bet) +2.5 at 49ers

Comments: I obviously hope I’m wrong about the Giants, but I have a strong New York feel this week, so I’m going with head over heart.

I actually disagree with both of your picks this week DDD. As much as I respect the Giants I feel that the 49’ers are a better team and will hold serve at home. Also, even though I root for the Patriots, I expect the Ravens to play them tough and quite possibly win this game outright. I guess we’ll see tomorrow. Best wishes to your wife and kid buddy.

    Poincare – I hope you’re right! And I don’t have a kid.

Oops! Pardon me DDD. Well best wishes to your lovely wife then.

There’s something about this Giants-49’ers match-up that reminds me of the Cowboys-Vikings playoff game a few years ago (Favre’s first season with the Vikings and his final good season). I remember how high everybody was on the Cowboys after they dominated their wild card game. Pretty much everybody I knew thought they would keep on rolling in Minnesota–and the Vikings beat them soundly.

I think everybody is overreacting a little to the Giants’ performance last week against the Packers. Also, I think people tend to believe that a team on a 4-game winning streak is more likely to keep winning than they actually are. I very much respect the Giants, and I do believe that Eli Manning is a better quarterback than Alex Smith. That said, I also believe that Patrick Willis is the best defensive player on either team and the Niners defense is superior to the Giants defense. The 49’ers are at home which so many people seem to be discounting. I can’t imagine Candlestick Park not being an extremely difficult place for a road team to win a playoff game.

I am a Patriots fan and think they are a little better than 50/50 to win today. There is no way, however, that I can justify laying more than a touchdown to the one team in the conference that matches up with them better than any other. I still don’t have much confidence in the Patriots’ defense. They looked really good last week, but that was just one game against the Broncos. I hope they repeat that defensive performance against the Ravens, but I don’t see any way in hell that they will.

I guess that’s why they play the games. I love the NFL! 15 minutes until kick-off. Talk to you soon my friend.

Donald, I wouldn’t say that if I were you. DDD knows your IP address and is likely to hunt you down and bash your face in with his replica 49ers helmet.
