    Have you see Dallas’ Nov/Dec schedule? If not, have a gander:

    @GB
    @NYG
    v. Det
    v. NO
    @Indy
    v. Phil
    v. Wash
    @ Ariz
    @ Phil

    This, from a team that has elevated the late-season collapse to an art form in recent seasons. I honestly feel like Dallas could be in jeopardy of missing the playoffs altogether if they stumble out of the gate even slightly. Definitely can’t see them coming out of that gauntlet with the momentum necessary to make a SB run. But it could be wishful thinking on my part.

    I know I know. I have them projected only to win around nine games. It will be hard for them since they are unlikely to have homefield advantage even if they do make the playoffs (unless they make the Super Bowl). I love Green Bay, and I admit they are probably the favorites, but I can’t stand picking the same way everyone else has.

    And remember, this is a Dallas team that went into New Orleans late last year and dominated. And their loss in the postseason was in Minnesota – by far the toughest game in the NFL last year was against the Vikings on the road. And Dez Bryant could be a monster.

    I do hear you tho.

    Feeling pretty good about my naysaying so far. The Cowboys have as much talent on their roster as anyone, no doubt, but here’s the thing, and there’s really no getting around it: they are simply a poorly-coached team, and, as such, they are going to exhibit the hallmarks of a poorly-coached team (lack of discipline, motivation/desire, focus, preparation, you name it), repeatedly and at inopportune times. It’s a foundational and unavoidable fact when considering their prospects. On the best day of his life, Phillips is no better than a C-minus NFL coach, and probably a D-minus model on average. He could singlehandedly cost his team a few wins in any given season, IMHO, whereas bold and competent coaches, such as Payton and your boy Billy, have the inverse effect. Garrett is also wildly overrated as an offensive mind. Austin was completely unstoppable, he caught every single ball thrown his way save a single clanker which was impossibly underthrown. The Skins had no answer for the guy at all, there was basically a neon sign over his head screaming “Ticket to Certain Victory” all night, yet he takes a backseat to a pointless, unproductive and plainly forced Dez Bryant screen party all night, with another smattering of looks were tragically wasted on the rotting corpse of Roy Williams. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

    When Hulagu Khan was ravaging the Abbasid Caliphate in the 13th century, sacking city after city and putting entire populations to the sword, did the Great Khan Mongke decide “hey, this is too easy”, recall his ferocious general back to Karakorum and instead go to a flashy but totally inexperienced, fresh-out-an-academically-dubious-college Mongol with some pathetic, wispy moustache to deliver the coup de grace? Hell no!!!! Mongke had a good head on his shoulders, he _knew_ Hulagu was the man for the job, that he was an unstoppable force of nature, and that _you don’t mess with success_. That’s the kind of combination of common sense, smarts and killer instinct which guys like Phillips and his staff will never have.

    I agree with everything you said here. I should have picked Green Bay. Coaching matters in the NFL, and Phillips is a joke.
