RotoScoop Invitational

So I’m heading out to Phoenix on Friday for LABR. It will be my third year in the league, and while I finished second in 2008, last year was not very good, so I’m entering with extra motivation. Anyway, excuse my intermittent posts from now until next week – I’ll probably be able to get up some more rankings, although without any commentary (also look out for my Oscar predictions Sunday night!).

Also, I’m going to start up the RotoScoop Invitational fantasy baseball league soon, which will be entering its second year. If you want in, make a comment here, or e-mail me at seven3d@aol.com. The “Jewru” won by a half point on the final day last year, beating an “Atlanta Crackers” team that lead for the majority of the year. I finished fourth.

Anyway, I promise to pump out a bunch of articles next week, but bear with me until then, and if you want in on some RSI action, let me know. And if anyone also wants to let me know of a sleeper/target I should go after in an extremely deep NL-only 13-team LABR league, I’m all ears. Wish me luck!

Best of luck with LABR. I’ll be real interested to see the draft results. I would totally be interested in joining the RotoScoop Invitational. I’ve been prepping for my 12 team NL league. Some names I expect to outperform their projections:
    1. Maybin. Florida shortened his swing when he was sent down to AAA last year ensuring more contact and less power. He hit real well in AAA (and dramatically improved his BB rate if I recall correctly) and in his brief MLB callup at the end of the year. The Marlins project him hitting 2nd behind Coghlan and before Ramirez. Batting in front of Ramirez he should see a healthy amount of FBs — nobody wants to walk the speedy cat with Ramirez up next. I’m projected 84/13/54/.282/16 in 560 ABs… yet he could definitely exceed this.
    2. Frenchy & Wright. I’m no fan of the Mets yet I think these two guys are so beaten down they are going to outperform. Frenchy in particular could be a nice buy low, although it’s a small sample size he really settled down and finished 09 with a flurry.
    3. Schierholtz — 860 minor OPS and most projections have him under 400 ABs. If he gets the full time job (which he should) and 500 ABs he will be a pleasant surprise.
    4. Both LaRoches. Most projections have Andy under 450 ABs. Even if Alvarez explodes up to the show (which I don’t expect until August, dude seems to take his time adjusting to each level) Andy is an excellent defensive player and could take 2B, with the Pirates moving Iwamura. If Clement/Jones don’t hit Alvarez would take 1B anyways. If he exceeds his projected PT — which I expect — look for outperformance on most valuations. Re: Adam… Arizona inflates LH HR by 10-15%. I expect them to remain in the hunt and for Adam to stay in the desert all year.
    5. Dotel. 10 k/9 in the AL last year and no real competition for his job. Only concern here is that he’s traded at the deadline.

    Best of luck!

CHONE hates Pedro Alvarez in 2010; PECOTA sees him hitting only .249, albeit with 23 homers in 533 plate appearances.

I have to dispute the notion that he struggles to adapt at each level — I’m gonna write off his .247 average in high A ball last year (his first pro experience) as a matter of adjusting to the pros and wooden bats, period. The Pirates seemingly agreed, since they promoted him to AA midyear anyway, where he hit .333 with a 1.099 OPS — 27 homers on the year in fewer than 500 ABs ain’t bad for a guy who is just learning to swing real wood.

Youth of Today – Great stuff. I like those recommendations. Look for an invite to the RS league once I get back.

Also, I should have mentioned this in the post – but we usually have a $50 buy-in for those of you interested in joining the league.

Even better that there is a $50 buy in. Ensures folks pay attention. Some more NL targets:
-Hammel. I know dude is a Rockie yet dude qualifies for the LIMA plan and had a 3.81 xFIP last year. Just don’t start him when the Phillies, Cardinals and any hot team rolls into Denver.
-Norris: Dude averaged 94.9 on his FB last year. I’m addicted to SP’s that throw heat. ‘Stros might not win many games but Norris might approach 9 k/9 to go along with a sub 4.3 ERA.
-Anibal Sanchez. Every one is done on him with his poor xFIP last year and shoulder concerns. He rebounded when remotely healthy at the end of last year and could be a solid $2-$3 NL pitcher.
-Jonathon Sanchez: Dude throws heat, I’m addicted. 200 K’s with a sub 4 ERA/1.35 WHIP isn’t out of the question as he matures. I have him ahead of Oswalt, Jurrjens, Lilly.
-SF relief pitchers. Wilson is safe, yet Romo had a 10.85 k/9 last year, Joaquin has a averaged 96.7 on his FB to complement his 2 seamer and BP has Affeldt down for a sub 3.50 SIERRA.

Oswalt: I don’t trust him this year. Dude has been battling lingering issues for a few years that I sense have been undereported. The Stros should suck, so the team isn’t going to push Oswalt this year and may shut him down if/when his back starts to decay again.

    2010 NL values:
    -Chris Dickerson
    -Chase Headley
    -Cody Ross

    -Ryan Madson
    -Mike Adams
    -Sam Gervacio

Good luck! Waiting to see your draft/team for 2010.

Why do I have the feeling we’re all going to be trying to do the same damn thing in the draft? Looking forward to it!

Yeah, after last year we’ll definitely all be doing the same thing: trying to trade-rape Kritter as hard and as often as possible.

This year I vow not to punt batting avg, steals, runs and saves. That’ll get me to finish around eighth for sure!
