I think we’ve officially reached the point where some notation on Steve Smith is a requirement (team, middle initials, anything)–it was no biggie when one was #5 and the other #50, but now it seems like they could overlap in any given week. Or, well, we’ll have reached that point once Carolina is past their bye. Craziness. Carolina Steve was such a bitch on Monday Night that I can’t even feel bad about his fall. When you’re pitching a fit before the entire country and throwing all the blame at your teammates, you probably need to actually, you know, like cover your ass by running through your routes and shit so as to avoid having your QB hung out to dry on a game-winning pick while you look like a flaming hypocrite. Asshole.

Is this a one-week thing with Marshall or do you have him on the rise (presumably at your boy Royal’s expense)? If it’s the latter, it may be time to strike on a lowball offer.

I cannot believe I drafted Beanie Wells ahead of Benson. I want to throw up. Is it just me or is Wells rapidly morphing into Rashard Mendenhall before our eyes? Big-10 backs taken in the 1st round by good teams, big but with some shiftiness and moves (theoretically, anyway), fragile as icicles, and fundamentally worthless?

Bearing in mind their respective Wks. 14-17 schedules, would you definitely rather have Forte than Slaton at this point?

Ya I agree, I just didn’t think it was necessary with CAR on a bye this week. I also agree about the Panther Smith, who nearly cost me the week in Y! Friends and Family b/c of that pick-six he was responsible for.

It’s more than a one week thing, I like Marshall more now than I did last month.

I could def. be wrong, but to me, I like Wells – I just hate the way he’s been treated. Maybe the bye week will lead to more PT moving forward. It doesn’t seem like a skills issue so far.

I’d rather Slaton than Forte, especially if you are concentrating on their playoff schedules.

Can you help me analyze my roster? I am in good shape now, but maybe I can make some moves that will help me overall and the playoffs. Here is my team; what do you think? (10 team non-PPR Yahoo league, standard scoring)
    QB – Aaron Rodgers
    RB – Ronnie Brown
    RB – Pierre Thomas
    WR – Larry Fitzgerald
    WR – Andre Johnson
    WR – Desean Jackson
    TE – Greg Olsen/Kellen Winslow
    K – Lawrence Tynes
    DEF – Pittsburgh
BN – Felix Jones, Fred Jackson, David Garrard, Braylon Edwards, Pierre Garcon, Mario Manningham

That team is absolutely loaded. I don’t see one particularly weakness to address at all. Got to be patient with F. Jones for now, although now might be the time to shop around F. Jackson – maybe to the Lynch owner? It would be worth trying to deal guys like Manningham and Edwards, but having good depth is always helpful with the possibility of injuries and dealing with upcoming byes. For the most part, I’d stand pat for now.

So, what are your thoughts on McDork’s shocking 3-0 start? Legit, mirage, or something in between?

  6. RotoScoop Avatar

Something in between, but I will say that defense looks like the complete opposite of last year’s version. A fairly easy schedule has helped, but you have to be good to hold opponents to just 16 points over a three-game stretch. And the offensive line is fantastic (was last year too). Ryan Clady is a top-30 NFL player.

But that type of gameplan (all running and few downfield attempts with the passing game) leaves them with limited upside long-term.

Interesting. If they had Shanahan, Cutler, a happy Marshall and the same improved D, I would feel a helluva lot more enthusiastic about their prospects. I think they’re probably the type of team where, if they get down two scores, they’re cooked 9 times out of 10. Maybe they can make .500, which would have been a big surprise just a few weeks ago.

On another note, did your rankings already factor in Davis’ absence in Cleveland (I know not long-term, the IR thing was just announced, but for this week?). I’m wondering if he’s now a slam-dunk swing option over Manningham and D. Brown this week now….I’m guessing maybe not a slam, but an uncontested layup?

Oh, I totally agree with you Nick. You’re preaching to the choir. I just didn’t want to come across as some McDaniels hater who can’t admit when he’s wrong. But one thing I will say is that Shanahan (who I still love as a coach) sometimes was way too stubborn with personnel decisions and maybe Nolan wouldn’t have been able to make such an impact on defense. But I agree, ultimately, Denver won’t go far with this type of offensive philosophy. And there’s ZERO argument they are worse off with Orton and a couple of draft picks than Cutler right now. It’s not even a debate.

I actually was hyping J. Davis earlier, but with further evidence, I wasn’t too worried about him taking many touches from Harrison this week. He just looked way too raw. That said, his season-ending injury not only helps Harrison this week (Cincy is no doormat defensively anymore, but Harrison is actually kind of good. He was impressive against Balt last week and should get almost all of the touches Sunday). And long-term, if J. Lewis continues to show his age, the Davis injury is more impactful. Harrison isn’t quite built to be a workhorse, but there’s little else on the roster, and Harrison can catch the ball too. He’s at minimum a decent upside bench option.

I hear ya on Harrison, he looks decent enough to me, and I had no trouble dropping the crappy QB4 I had (in the league with a 2QB lineup possibility) to pick him up. But I also agree about Cincy’s D–I actually nabbed them out of FA in the RSI league early in the week, as soon as waivers cleared, with the intent of running them this week against flailing Cleveland. I know he’s probably dangerous to use this week, but from what I’ve seen, in addition to his impact on the aerial game, he _can_ work between the tackles at least halfway decently, so now that it’s definitive that Lewis is out and it’s only Cribbs or a street FA as “threats” to siphon carries, at least this week, I’m figuring he must get at least 15-20 touches, with an outside shot at 25. With that kind of workload, you almost have to run him over D. Brown vs. Seattle, or Manningham vs. KC, despite the superiority of those matchups, right? I guess I’m thinking Brown doesn’t get the carries yet and lacks the ceiling just by virtue of disparity in touches (you seem to feel that way from the rankings as well), and while going against the KC defense is always a mouth-watering prospect, there’s also the looming threat that NYG just run it down the Chiefs throats and MM comes away with a 3 or 4 point day.

Yes – I’d roll with Harrison.

Mendanhall — who saw that coming?

I sorta did after Week 2, but he was only on the wire in one of my four leagues. He “flashed” a few times in that game, and I figured he had some craziness in him down the line. Just didn’t see it coming so soon. He got me what may be my sole win in this bye-addled week!

Brett Favre getting a crack at his old Green Bay team on prime-time Monday Night and you have him ranked 17th? Was there a better QB performance this week?

  13. RotoScoop Avatar
    RotoScoop

Paul – It doesn’t work that way my man. If you want to criticize/argue/debate, you do it BEFORE the fact. GB had been gashed against the run all year. But yes, obviously in hindsight, he was ranked too low.

    RotoScoop

By the way, Favre looked damn good. That performance was no fluke. He really played well.

If I start a support group for people who lost this past week due to the fucking 49ers’ defense getting 39 points for their opponent (fresh off the FA scrap heap, no less), is anyone else interested in joining?

  16. RotoScoop Avatar
    RotoScoop

Not here, b/c I added either SF or N.O. D in just about every league I’m in last week. Got lucky there. The Rams are baaad.

Sounds like SportsGuy’s support group for other idiots who took LT over Chris Johnson.

I want another Defense in that Pierre Thomas deal, PT is too good!

LT over Chris Johnson is beyond laughable.

PT will have to deal with Mike Bell soon – and Kevin Smith scored two touchdowns! Denver D is legit!

i was wondering if u could give me your recommendation on what running backs to start this week 9. it is where my team is struggling. i have…
    brandon jacobs
    lesean mccoy
    reggie bush
    jamal charles

i have jacobs and charles in wondering if i should start bush instead. with mccoy he was out with the flu and westbrook is back…

also what about picking up mcfadden as a sleeper since my backs r week. if not him any other recs.

Jacobs and Charles for sure. I wouldn’t even think twice about it.

Yes, might as well pick up and stash McFadden. I assume Ryan Moats is gone? I actually think Charles could be sneaky valuable from here on out.
