Bet On It

By Dalton Del Don

Last year I went 130-116-10, giving me a 260-233 record over the last two seasons. I’m so pumped football is officially back, so let’s get right into the Week 1 slate:

Titans +6 at Steelers

Dolphins +4 at Falcons

Chiefs +13 at Ravens

Eagles -1 at Panthers

Broncos +4 at Bengals

Vikings -4 at Browns

Jets +4.5 at Texans

Jaguars +7 at Colts

Lions +13 at Saints

Cowboys -6 at Buccaneers (Best Bet)

49ers +6.5 at Cardinals

Redskins +6.5 at Giants

Rams +8.5 at Seahawks

Bears +3.5 at Packers

Bills +11 at Patriots

Chargers -9 at Raiders

Comments: It’s Week 1, so with even more uncertainty than normal, why not take 12 underdogs? And as for my best bet, I actually like the Cowboys this year, but Tampa Bay isn’t nearly as bad as many think. Take the home dog. I went 11-4-2 with my “best bet” last year.

I like the Bucs as well. The Cowboys aren’t nearly as good as people make them out to be as well. My best bet however is the Ravens. There is no way the Chiefs don’t get blown out here. The Ravens certainly will not be losing this game and if it gets out of hand early and they pull Cassel, Croyle won’t be mounting a comeback.
I also think the Broncos get slammed as well. The Broncos are 3-13 bad only they won’t go 3-13 because of the pathetic division they play in. Lets get it on.

i like titans with the points tomorrow as my best bet, and i also like the over in Indy even with a high line (44.5)

One of your underdogs i didn’t agree with is the browns, i think the vikings should be laying more, even on the road.

I also like the Chiefs this weekend too, I really don’t see that being a two touchdown game.

  3. The Jewru says:

Hey Chad want to bet league fees that the Ravens cover that game? Thanks for showing up to the draft.

  4. Kritter the much hated Noob says:

U guys know I don’t care for the spread, so I do my picks outright, here we go again, I did pretty well last year…

    Steelers over Titans
    Falcons over Dolphins
    Ravens over Chiefs
    Eagles over Panthers
    Bengals over Broncos
    Vikings over Browns
    Texans over Jets
    Colts over Jaguars
    Saints over Lions
    Cowboys over Buccaneers
    Cardinals over 49ers
    Giants over Redskins
    Seahawks over Rams
    Packers over Bears
    Patriots over Bills
Raiders over Chargers (gotta pick my team)

  5. RotoScoop says:

Jewru – I actually switched the Ravens pick from my first instinct, meaning that game was tough for me, and I won’t argue. I also think Denver will be 3-13 type bad. But I’m not sure the Bengals should be giving that many points to anyone right now, especially with Palmer missing last year and most of the preseason.

  6. RotoScoop says:

new balance – The Vikings are getting 99% of the bets ATS this week. That line is one of the bigger sucker ones I’ve ever seen. Seems beyond obvious. That’s why I just had to go ugly and fade the public. Maybe I’m wrong here, but if you go against lines like that all year, odds are you’ll come out ahead in the end. But obviously, that looks ridiculous at face value. Aren’t the Vikings Super Bowl contenders? The Browns are terrible, right? I really don’t get that line. But Vegas isn’t giving away money this weekend.

  7. new balance says:

    Jewru-
Yeah, i’ll take that action on chiefs I haven’t paid ddd for league, so winner pays double? or however you want to do it. Just confirm it here before the game, and i’m cool with that.

draft was on my birthday, I suck. My damn friends threw a surprise party, those fuckers; how dare they.

DDD-agreed; we all know vegas doesn’t throw away money, but they do miss lines occasionally. Where’d you find that 99% stat, didn’t know this (also would be curious to know where i could find such info), impacts my thoughts on it slightly, but i still like the vikings to win by 6. Probably will keep me from putting action on the game though. I usually bet half-units week 1 anyway.

  8. new balance says:

    jewru-obviously i meant loser pays double…

  9. The Jewru says:

Surprise Party is acceptable excuse. Sorry.

Upon further thought, I am not going to make that bet with you. It is not right for me to ask Dalton to broker my bets, especially since he has my money already from baseball winnings. Instead lets make the bet , winner gets to name the other’s team. You game?

  10. RotoScoop says:

I’m fine brokering bets, for what it’s worth. I know both of you are good for it.

Looks like the Browns are up to 3% !

  11. new balance says:

no apology neccessary, i deserve a ribbing for missing my most important draft (although i’m totally happy with LT round 2) I had a non-surprise event earlier that weekend, so i thought my birthday was over. I threw together a pre-ranking about 1 hr before. unfortunately neglected to remove kickers from the list… dumb. All in all, i think i’ll be able to compete, team turned out okay.

I’m totally game for that, although my team name has been new balance since i first played salary cap baseball in 9th grade. (I’m now in 10th grade, so that was only 3 years ago)

  12. new balance says:

I decided to place action on vikes. Based soley on the value of the bet, i really think this line may move as far as -6 or -5.5. When this line opened in July (pre-favre nonsense) it opened at -2. I think Favre helps that team by way more than 2 points, especially on the road. TJ is garbage.

As far as running game goes, Minnesota absolutely dominates with the ball or without the ball. They’re not great as road favorites, but this could be the exception to the trend. Minnesota easily can win scrimmage yards by +150

  13. RotoScoop says:

I’m not calling it a bad bet (I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable placing $ on the Browns), just that the obvious ones more often than not prove otherwise. This one may very well not be the case though.

  14. new balance says:

i never take your comments lightly…

  15. Ray Rice says:

I pity da fool who bet against Double-R.

    RRRRRRR Ruff

  16. new balance says:

Yo DDD. (or any other opinions) I’ve got palmer as a qb in one league, as well as big ben. I’d like to start palmer, but do we still have question marks on his return (or the quality thereof)? I’d normally just wait till saturday night or sunday morning, but my only back up plays tonight, so need to pull the trigger one way or the other.

  17. RotoScoop says:

I’m going to put out a weekly starting lineup ranking article tomorrow, but I wasn’t able to get it out before tonight’s game. Anyway, I’d go with Palmer, personally.

  18. The Jewru says:

Ok Chad since DDD doesnt mind we are on for $50 plus name change ability.

  19. new balance says:

    done deal. chiefs +13.

  20. SayWhoSayWhat says:

    +13 Detroit, stone cold lock
    -4 Atlanta
    +4.5 New York Jets
    -4 Cincy
    +2.5 Carolina
    -7 Indianapolis
    -3.5 Minnesota
    -12.5 Balitmore
-6.5 New York Giants, Stone Cold Lock
    -7.5 Seattle
    +6.5 San Francisco
    -3.5 Green Bay
-10.5 New England, Stone Cold Lock
    -9.5 San Diego

  21. RotoScoop says:

Good stuff. I had a hard time with Wash/NYG, for what its’ worth. Going against my best bet, eh?

  22. B Wright, Most the Time says:

Hey Dalton, the SayWhoSayWhat picks are actually mine. I forgot the screen name I used last year but I am back now for the NFL season. My stone cold locks suck so far but I am still 9-4 overall.

  23. RotoScoop says:

Ya I knew that was you. Nice job so far.
