A batch of links to get you through the weekend:

Stephen Strasburg is officially the best pitching prospect in the history of baseball. Through 27.1 innings this year, he has a decent 59:5 K:BB ratio. There’s now even talk he could be in the Nationals’ rotation later THIS year.

Speaking of “best pitching prospect ever,” here’s a terrific article by Jeff Passan regarding the fall of Mark Prior. My favorite excerpt: “In Prior’s last nine games, including three in the playoffs, he logged the following pitch counts: 131, 129, 109, 124, 131, 133, 132, 115, 119. House believes the overuse by Baker doomed Prior. Eight pitchers this decade have thrown 109 or more pitches in nine straight games, and half of them needed reconstructive arm surgery.”

Here’s a recent podcast I recorded.

Bill Belichick would probably rank in my top-10 of those I’d want to have a beer with.

To call Pablo Sandoval a “free swinger” would be an understatement. He makes Vladimir Guerrero’s plate coverage look modest.

Hire Joe Morgan?

It doesn’t sound like or Plaxico Burress is changing anytime soon.

The Rick Porcello era looks ready to begin much sooner than anticipated.

I haven’t seen “Watchmen,” but if I did it would be for the criminally underrated Malin Akerman.

LeBron James’ recent three-game string of consecutive triple-doubles impress you? Please check out Michael Jordan’s starting from March 25th on during the 1988-89 season.

Interesting look on how current MLB free agents would fare as a team. It remains unclear why Jim Edmonds hasn’t been signed yet.

The more I think about it, the more I say “Revolutionary Road” was the best movie of 2008. Especially if you like feel-good, uplifting flicks. I didn’t rank it in my year-end list, because I hadn’t watched it yet. But for everything Sam Mendes did wrong with the awful “American Beauty,” he gets right here.

The UConn/Syracuse six-overtime game was definitely entertaining and crazy (odds of it happening were 1 in 122,000), but it was also a little overrated. For one, nearly every shot that ended a quarter was a miss. Also, the final margin of victory was 10 points.

MJ is the man. 12 of 15 games a triple double.
Makes me wonder how good nick johnson could have been.

59:5, holy crap. I don’t think I would have that rate if I was pitching to Little Leaguers, and I’m 27.

MJ is most definitely the man.

59 Ks in 27.1 innings?! I’d probably take Strasburg over any player in the minor leagues right now. He’s so sick it’s a joke. Even Washington can’t be dumb enough to pass on him, regardless of his price tag.

Dalton you didn’t like American Beauty? I loved that flick. It really captured how flawed the human condition can be. Guess agree to disagree.

Jim Edmonds sure would look good on my Mets. I don’t get it either. Dusty the devastator will keep me from taking any pitchers under his watch, although Bochy really abused your boy toy last year D. lol

Jewru – I’m just curious, have you seen American Beauty recently, or are you only going off memories from 9 years ago?

There are teams that could use Edmonds a lot more than your Mets. Church and Murphy could be solid, and it’s not like they need a center fielder. Edmonds actually had a .937 OPS for the Cubs last year.

I want some of those Reds pitchers, but Dusty is looming. Bochy is just as bad right now, no doubt.

Edmonds is likely on the steroid report to be released by MLB in the next couple of weeks/months. No one will touch him. During this recession baseball owners are anticipating a 15-20% decrease in attendance, no way an organization takes a PR hit on top of the economic factors.

    Strasburg is pretty good…

I have seen American Beauty probably 3 times don’t recall how recently. It did win best picture. I really enjoy the writing of Alan Ball and found Six Feet Under the best thing I have ever viewed on TV. Perhaps this makes me a pussy or perhaps it is the reason I always got alot of it. lol
What didn’t you like about it?

Also are you going to stick to your guns and take Lince in the 1st round?

As far as other teams needing Edmonds, Hey I am in NY we don’t care how much our teams pay for players. JK I do actually care and hate what has become of my favorite sport.

Stefan – Interesting take on Edmonds. Could def. be true. Makes more sense than the White Sox willingly going with their pu pu platter in CF.

Jewru – Winning best picture doesn’t mean anything to me. The academy is all politics and always gets it wrong. Shakespeare in Love also won best pic.

Anyway, I actually really liked Six Feet Under as well. So I’m with you there.

If I get a late first round pick, Timmy is all mine.

Those are just sick stats from MJ! Nice link. Wonder if I can draft Strasburg if he isnt yet on an official team. Maybe I can slip him through if nobody knows who he is 😉

If Strasburg is available to draft in a reserve/minors format – make him the first pick.

Good luck to Volquez, Cueto, et al. Those Jordan lines are sick. It’s obviously not official yet, but what do you think of Porcello if he’s in the rotation to start. Leading the league (even if Low A) in ERA without being able to throw all your pitches is pretty impressive. Coupled with his impressive spring…it was enough to convince me to draft him in my keeper league, but I’m not sure about redraft leagues. Looking forward to the Rotoscoop league!

I like Porcello a good amount for the future, but honestly, keeping expectations pretty low for this season would probably be best. I wouldn’t be aggressive at all in redraft leagues. He def. will need some patience.
