Bet on It

By Dalton Del Don

Last week I went 1-3, bringing my playoff record to 3-5. My best bet, the Panthers, lost by 20, making me 1-1 there. As for this week, the Cardinals are playing their best football of the season, and their ability to create turnovers and homefield advantage give them a legitimate shot at reaching the Super Bowl. However, the Eagles enter with the NFC’s best defense, and Arizona still has a shaky secondary. Philadelphia seems to always disappoint just when everyone believes in them, but this is a team that dropped 48 points on Arizona the last time they played. Of course, circumstances have changed since then, and the team has no running game with a hobbled Brian Westbrook, but expect Philly’s defense to lead the way Sunday. Back the Eagles…I’m less certain in backing the Steelers – six points is a lot in what figures to be a low scoring game. But Baltimore’s offense has been a bigger problem in the playoffs than most realize, and counting on fumble recoveries is never desirable. Pittsburgh looks like the clear best team in football and enters with the superior offense, so I’ll reluctantly give the points.

Eagles -3.5 (best bet) at Cardinals

Ravens +6 at Steelers

2-2 last week bring my playoff total to 5-3 (stone cold locks remain 1-1). I have the same picks this week Big D. Eagles are the hot pick and I agree that the Eagles D is what will bring them victory. The Cardinals have proved me wrong a time or two but I just can’t see them winning this game. I firmly believe the Steelers will win and I believe they will win by more than 6. The D is playing very well, special teams are playing special and Big Ben makes it happen on the Offensive side of the ball. If I were betting at Vegas this week I would take the tease bet allowing to move the spread six points for the two games. That would make 0 spread for Pitt and -9.5 for the Eagles. To make the money you gotta win both but the tease bet would make a stone cold lock for me.

    Wright,

I believe you meant to say +2.5 for the Eagles. So you think the Eagles and the Steelers are both “stone cold locks” to at least win their games? I agree with you about the Steelers. I don’t see any way that the Ravens can beat them in Pittsburgh. That said, I know from experience that almost anything is possible so it wouldn’t shock me if the Ravens somehow pulled it out–although it would surprise me quite a bit.

My head says that the Eagles are a better team than the Cardinals, but the sports fan (not Arizona fan) in me really likes the Cardinals in that game for the simple reason that they are playing every bit as well as the Eagles are RIGHT NOW and actually have home-field advantage. This game should be close enough that the current 4 point spread is a big deal. I would rather have the points in what I see as essentially a toss-up with the Cardinals maybe even having an ever so slight advantage.

My teaser lock for this weekend is Cardinals (+10) and Steelers (pick). Just don’t bet the house on it since I will be the first to say I’ve been wrong before and I’m 100% sure I’ll be wrong again in the future.

Ya Wright meant +2.5 for Philly in the teaser. I’m not all that confident in either pick. I’d probably rather Zona win as a sports fan with no interest in any of the remaining teams. Then again, I laid a little $ on Philly, so go Eagles.

Sorry for the mishap fellas. You correctly right though. Eagles and Steelers win outright? I think they will and my confidence is growing as we come closer to Sunday. Steelers are a lock but the only thing holding me back on the Eagles is their suspect running game. Cardinals have dramatically improved their running defense in their playoff run and Westbrook being all but placed on IR is what makes me nervous about this matchup. I gotta go with the Eagles though because of the D they will bring to Red Sea.

1-1 this week and 0-1 on the tease. How surprising do the Cardinals look. Surprised the hell out of me.

Crazy good game by the Cards. Nice of the Eagles to show up during the 2nd half. Fitz is ridiculous. If Philly wasn’t going to cover, glad they lost.

Poincare’s weekend teaser locks are now 1-0. God I love watching Larry Fitzgerald play. As of now I have no strong feelings about who will win the Super Bowl. I will say that I’ll be rooting for the Cardinals.

Poincare – Nice work. I would root for Zona, but I might lean toward Pitt ATS. But Zona keeps proving me wrong.

TD – I hear you. I’m going to get on it this week, I promise.
