Bet on It

By Dalton Del Don

If I were laying real money down, I’d stay far away from this week, as it’s a slate I had a terribly difficult time with. I give Vegas a lot of credit, as they were right on with most of these lines. Taking 11 favorites has me sick to my stomach. A lot of interesting teaser options, though.

Chiefs +6 at Falcons

Cardinals +3 at Redskins

Texans +5 at Titans

Raiders +10 at Bills

Buccaneers +3 at Bears

Panthers +3.5 at Vikings

Bengals +14 at Giants

Dolphins +13 at Patriots

Saints +5.5 at Broncos

Lions +4 at 49ers

Rams +10 at Seahawks

Browns +2 at Ravens (best bet)

Steelers +3 at Eagles

Jaguars +5.5 at Colts

Cowboys -3 at Packers

Jets +10 at Chargers

Great call advising owners to buy Ronnie Brown – what a performance. I tried to get him, but really had nothing to offer.
Is it only a matter of time before Quinn takes over in Brownsville, and what’s going on in the SD backfield tommorrow night? A lot of nervous owners for that one.

Just one baseball question (kind of pressing, forgive the intrusion in this space):

At the conclusion of Week 1 of a two-week H2H finale, and given that your Week 2 lineup locked at noon tomorrow and you were thus riding the tiger, assuming you were down in Wins, Ks, ERA and WHIP, but that all of these were still very much in play, which of these fifth pitching options would you most prefer to back a front four of Lincecum(x2), Harden(x2), Liriano, and Baker(x2):

    Josh Johnson: @ Wash
    Scott Olsen(x2): @Wash, @NYM
    Matt Cain: vs. LAD
    Ben Sheets: vs. ChC

Kind of leaning Olsen and praying for the best, knowing I’ll at least get the most innings to make up counting stats (Wins could be hard, but I suspect I’ll end up crushing my opponent in Ks) and more opportunity to impact on dots (down less than one run in ERA, about .25 in WHIP)….that said, the impact on dots could be pretty negative w/ Olsen, esp. at Shea. Johnson’s been good to me lately, I like him best of the rest, but I don’t know, I could probably be talked into any configuration, maybe even taking Baker out. Thx again!

PS: I would like to thank Willis McGahee and Chad Johnson for being such spectacular sluts and sucking so badly this season so far that they forced my hand and virtually made me play Ronnie Brown today. Willis and Chad, you both suck, but I love you.

Matt – I really do think Cleveland’s schedule has been a big part of that offensive disappointment. That said, Anderson’s struggles go back to the 2nd half of last year, so there’s plenty to worry about. The Quinn chatter will def. start to get louder now.

I expect LT to gut it out, play, and may get a TD at the goal line. That said, Sproles has more upside. I’d probably go with him over LT, actually. He’s seriously good.

Dreamweapon – That’s a tough call, and one I’m not confident with. Passing on Sheets is a no-brainer. There’s a very real chance he doesn’t even make that start, especially with the Brew Crew sinking. If it’s a points league, Olsen would be an easy call, but it all depends on the cats you are targeting here. If wins will be hard to take and you’ll take the Ks cat anyway, then to me, it comes down to Cain or Johnson, since Olsen’s 2nd start could be an ERA/WHIP blow up (check out his road stats). I’d prob. go with Johnson in Washington, but that’s tough.

Thx man, I did go with Johnson, it was the way I was leaning. Up 8-4 in SVs (Lidge and Soria are gods) but tied at nil in HLDs, I also dumped or benched my closers (those two plus Lindstrom and Saito) to pick up a bunch of 8th inning flotsam (Madson, Weathers and Jeff Bennett to go with the only HLDs guy I had all year, Bell). I only inserted two in my lineup at first, which caused my opponent (the reigning champ) to panic, as he dumped all of his closers and surrendered SVs outright to run 3 HLDs guys, plus Jorge de la Rosa in the 4th and final RP slot in order to try to match my edge in starts. LOVE IT. Right before the rosters locked at the start of today’s 1:10pm game, I made my move and put all four HLDs guys in, and have numerical superiority there now b/c of the de la Rosa gamble (like Master Sun say, let your plans be as dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt). I’m rolling on the offensive side with a complete six-cat sweep right now on the strength of massive weeks from Miggy, Manny and Ortiz (3 of the 6 will be almost impossible to lose now, and the other 3 leads are decent)….now I have SVs in pocket as well, and just moved ahead in HLDs via Weathers when the Reds improbably had a huge outburst this afternoon….in the bottom of the 7th! He also gave me a K to tie that up, and I think there’s no looking back there with twin starts from Lincecum and Harden both. Crazy-ass league, it would be awesome to take this one. Anything can happen, but I can almost taste victory now. This has to be karma from the FFL disaster last season, it just has to be.

Hey, I picked De La Rosa up in a league for his upcoming start against SF – beware! Also, looks like someone may be owing me $100…….Just sayin.

Hey Dalton, I’m in a 14-teamer, I own both Romo and Warner, and need serious upgrades to RB (LT, Perry, Selvin) and WR (Housh, Roddy, Royal) -yea, told ya it’s bad.
I’m absolutely trading one of them, but which direction would you try and go?
    Thanks!

Matt – These type of questions are pretty hard, since trades often come down to TWO teams’ needs. But if giving general advice, I normally say, trade the player who gets you the best deal. Obviously, I’d personally value Romo higher than Warner, especially given the health factor. I’d probably ride Housh and R. White out (they would be somewhat selling low, despite last week), but maybe try and sell Royal. I like Perry more than Young. I also would be more than willing to trade LT, who has clearly lost a step. That’s my advice for now, but go ahead and come back with some detailed trade opportunities.

I’m trying to pretend that whole thing isn’t happening. It’s just pathetic–huge lead for 5 months, tank job at the finish line. Talk about tortoise and hare.

OK, thanks Dalton. I was offered J.Lewis for V.Jackson – thoughts? He has Turner/Westbrook/Felix/M.Bush.
Thanks again, and I’ve already been lowballed Parker/Cassell for Romo – jeez!

    Too many RBs available… can’t rank them…

Have: LT, Grant, J. Lewis, Slaton, Selvin, Brown, Hightower
Could have: P. Thomas, Buckalter, McClain, Duckett, S. Morris, Rudi,

Can only spare to drop RB for RB … thoughts?

Also – pick a QB to go forward with: Palmer, O’Sullivan, Schaub, Delhomme, Ryan, Cassel, Pennington, Russell…

    Thanks man.

Matt – I’m not big on J. Lewis at all, but for Vincent Jackson, I’d probably pull the trigger. Cleveland’s offense will rebound when the schedule eases up, and Lewis did lead the NFL in goal line carries last year, so hopefully he gets plenty of opportunities moving forward.

Nat – I’d actually keep all of your backs…QB question comes down to Palmer, Schaub and O’Sullivan for me. Honestly, that’s so close my advice is for you to go with your own gut. Palmer is probably safest. O’Sillivan is a big unknown who could have the most upside. I loved Schaub entering the year, and two bad games against tough defenses shouldn’t change that TOO much. Although one more bad one might result in a benching. But if his YPA last year was any indication, he really has HUGE potential. I’d personally go Schaub, but I doubt many would agree at this time.
