Catcher Rankings

Here’s an updated, midseason version of rankings. This isn’t based on how they’ve played so far, but rather, how I view them from this point going forward.

On a side note, I’ll be in Vegas for the next few days and almost always away from a computer, so my responses to you heaping praise (or calling me an idiot) in the comments section may be delayed a bit. But don’t take it personally, you know I love ya. And if I left someone off completely who should be on there, chances are I’ll be ranking them under a different position.

1. Russell Martin
2. Brian McCann
3. Geovany Soto
4. Joe Mauer
5. Jorge Posada
6. Bengie Molina
7. Ryan Doumit
8. A.J. Pierzynski
9. Victor Martinez
10. Ivan Rodriguez
11. Kurt Suzuki
12. Dioner Navarro
13. Jarrod Saltalamacchia
14. Jeff Clement
15. Ramon Hernandez

I have to put Mccann at #1, Russel’s SB fell off drastically after the break last year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wears down again.

Jeff Clement at #14? Seriously, if you had to choose right now, would you rather have him or Suzuki? Irod? I would place clement in the top 10, as the other guys just don’t have any upside. He does have 5 HR in his last 16 games.

Dude, you are always in vegas. Nice.

where is Chris Iannetta, he’s the 5th ranked C in the games he starts and Torrealba has a real chance at being traded.

Donald – I had a tough time with the McCann/Martin ranking at the top. That’s a good point about Martin wearing down last year, which could again adversely affect his SB totals. And I’m also fine with the aggressive Clement ranking. Not sure he’s quite ready, but given the chance, I usually take the upside. I should have had him higher.

Yeah – the Vegas thing is a yearly trip (always at the All-Star break) for a RotoWire company get together. Good times. Although the NL cost me money.

Charles – Iannetta just missed and I could have easily included him in that 10-15 group. He could very easily be a top-10 guy with increased at-bats. His .896 OPS suggests he deserves it.
