there was an interesting article saying that Torre loves the professionals, that work hard, try hard, and set a good example in the clubhouse and that this was the reason Cashman ws not going to bring back Bernie Williams under any circumstances last year under Torre. Knowing full well that he'd play Bernie every chance he got and would let Melky languish on the bench.

The Giants should go after guys exactly like Murton - there are plenty of them out there. Would it really be that hard to pry Anthony Reyes from the Cards? He's pitching in middle relief for crying out loud. Dan Johnson, Dallas McPherson, it goes on and on, but instead Sabean brings in Jose Castillo. I'm starting a fire Brian Sabean campaign and I hope you help preach the cause.

Weiss, settle down. I love Kirk Gibson more than anyone you will ever meet, in all probability (believe me--more than even Larry Legend or John Riggins he was my childhood hero), but they still wailed on the A's that Series apart from his one at-bat. LaSorda was just plain brilliant that year, and their pitching was near-miraculous. Remember, they had almost nothing in terms of bats (Marshall and Sax were also dinged) and they still took it easily. The A's were too young, they just weren't ready for the big stage. And frankly, I think a case can be made that the Dodgers win over the Mets in the NLCS was more impressive anyway, as from what I recall almost no one gave them a chance. I think they probably would have won that Series regardless of Gibson's heroics, not that I would sacrifice them for all the world, of course.

Why don't the Giants make a move for Matt Murton? It's obvious by now that the Cubs hate him and will never give him a fair shake, and they even have admitted recently that they've been mistreating him and probably cost him a fortune in future earnings. They seem willing to make amends by moving him someplace where he could play regularly. I have to imagine the Giants could find room for a guy with the ability to post an OPS in the mid-.800s....

If Joe Torre knew anything about baseball, he would not work for the Dodgers. They suck. '88 was a fluke, and without Kirk Gibson, they have nothing.

Kotchman was regarded as the best hitter in the minors 5 years ago. He is just 25, he seems to have figured out how to pull the ball for power. I think there is a very real chance he finishes in the top 10 at 1B. Trump I think you should do more research into what the scouts have always felt about Kotchman. Sometimes it takes a little bit more time to bloom. Like Chase Utley.

ABSOLUTELY. Love Greinke, but I'd do that deal five minutes ago. I'd do it in a redraft league too, but if this is a keeper-league, it's highway robbery.

I don't think you've ever had to ban somebody, but anyone who sings the praises of Pierre at least warrants consideration. I should find the recent article that credits Torre as the worst manager in the recent era (based on objective analysis mind you...Bobby Cox came out #1).

Thanks for the response on my stressing offer. I'm countering with a simple Gallardo for Lincecum swap, as I'd really like to keep Lincecum in one keeper league.

Dreamweapon - I forgot about that "brain-dead caribbean hitter" comment - good times. Bowker has simply got to play over someone like Aurilia. Or even Randy Winn for that matter. I have very little faith in Bochy, however. Still, that team needs any sort of pick me up, so his hot start might give him an opportunity.

Paul - I wouldn't talk about baseball knowledge and then immediately follow that up with largely worthless stats like batting average and stolen bases. Joe Torre is an idiot. Last season Pierre had a .331 on base percentage and a .353 slugging percentage. He also has one of the worst arms in the game and got caught stealing 15 times. Add it all up, and you're looking at one of the very worst position players in all of baseball.

Derrek Lee is definitely proving me wrong.

Also, as a fellow Cain and Lincecum owner, if Bowker isn't inserted into the lineup over Aurilia on a permanent basis by this weekend, Bochy should be dragged out into the street and shot.

The Donald - haha, glad you came around on The Rickie. His Dunnesque AVG will never set the world ablaze, but four-cat megastuds at the MI positions are still gold, baby!

Paul - Put down the paint thinner. Kemp "has yet to play a full season in the big leagues" because he's all of 23 years old and has been saddled with horrific general and team management. That's akin to saying Reggie Evans is a better forward than Marcus Beasley b/c Beasley hasn't played a full season. In other words, purse sophistry. I don't want to horn in on Doug Melvin's action, but I feel comfortable stating here and now that my Brewers will HAPPILY send Mike Cameron and high draft pick to the Dodgers for Kemp, since he supposedly sucks so much. That would give Torre the aging, overrated, all-downside OF of his dreams, while a Braun/Hart/Kemp Milwaukee baby-faced OF could terrorize the NL Central for years to come. And I like Cameron, I do, but Matt Kemp is a 30/30-plus explosion looking for a place to detonate. His tools are in the Upton/Maybin class, and he's already demonstrated an ability to make necessary adjustments--when he first came up he was easy pickings for any pitcher with even a half-assed breaking pitch; by his second abbreviated season he was clocking well over .300. Obviously the league's scouts were onto him by that time and he was seeing more breaking stuff than ever, but he corrected his approach and began to shine.

Pierre is shit. All he has is speed, that's it. He can't slug to save his life (and here is THE stat, my man: Matt Kemp has 50% more career HR than Juan Pierre already, despite having about 1/10th the career AB. In other words, holy shit Juan Pierre sucks); his arm is a complete wet noodle, making him an absolute liability in the field (anyone playing him in center or right would have to be trying to lose intentionally at this point, and even in left he's bad, quite apart from his total inability to slug even a fraction of the amount required from a corner OF), and he has plate discipline about on par with Pedro "Brain-dead Caribbean Hitters Swinging at Slop Nightly" Feliz.

Juan Pierre is a below-average baseball player. He is a bad fielder and a horrible hitter, period. His .300 AVG is supremely hollow as its backed by a putrid OBP and SLG. The numbers provide no room for debate on this score. Yes, he is a plus baserunner. How that makes him worthy of a starting spot over a guy like Kemp, who has the ability to turn a game with a single stroke, is far beyond me.

Supremely inferior Juan Pierre? Pierre is a lfetime .300 hitter and has averaged over 50 SBs per season. Kemp has yet to even play a full season in the big leagues. Joe Torre has more knowledge of baseball in his pinky than anybody on this site so dont go dissing him. Chad Qualls? I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. Looks like that my man Derrek Lee is proving all the nay-sayers on here wrong.

Why is it a zero chance Kotchman finishes as top-10?

I was big on Rickie Weeks but acknowledged the risk - "Dreamweapon" is the poster on here who loves the guy.

I was given the tickets and a free ride to the Giants game, but that's still too much.

zero chance kotchman finishes as a top 10 1b.
Who was it that posted on this site about drafting ricky weeks. I have to thank that guy, as I drafted him in both my leagues.
PLease tell me that you are not spenging $80 to go to a giants game. Stay home and watch the baseball package.
Seriously, is lyon the next closer to go? You would really stash qualls over pena?
