no saves either. trade Zambrano for a closer or a speed guy.
i'll relent and say you are probably league avg in power.
but short speed and saves and staking your avg on youth like Jackson Loney and Mccann with some potential avg drain with izturis, pena and feliz

I don't think I'm supposed to post them until they are published in USAToday. It will come out in their Baseball Weekly newspaper. I would assume that will happen soon.

I'll be sure to keep my eye out and let you know if I find any info. on this though.

Ya that's a good point - when players were called out is key. And many of the ones who look overpriced are often the guys who were the last good players available at that position. You might be right about allocating my budget differently with Molina, and I certainly don't think he's some great hitter, but some pretty bad catchers went for like $6-9 later on, making me feel a little better.

13 teams is tough - it mean anyone with a pulse and Cesar Itzuris will be drafted

Spending that much on Molina might have really hurt you a $2 catcher and $11 to spend somewhere else (on a better MI or high priced stud would have made a difference) - but then we don't know the timing of his name being thrown out. Every draft always has a player with a way too high salary - because he was tossed out as the last good player left at a position

Ben - I feel ya, but you gotta understand, .270/14/60 is almost is an $18 player in this type of league. I didn't want to spend those prices for them, but to put in in perspective, let's take Kelly Johnson for $18. Ryan Theriot went for the same price. Freddy Sanchez and Ty Wigginton went for $15. I agree it's not going to be easy to make a profit at those prices, but this is about as deep of a league as it gets.

I don't think I'm exactly punting steals. This group could get me 60, which wouldn't be last in a format like this. That said, it's def. projected to be bottom third, so I'll be looking to trade for some. Unlike NFBC, trades are allowed here.

Donald - I hear you loud and clear and agree. Unfortunately, I had committed to it the night before, and yes, it was just a mock (not played out, but I guess I'll be in some publication or something). It was a terrible decision, no doubt.

I think you overpaid on potential. Conor, Kelly, and Loney at 18 -- that's about their upside (unless Conor wins the batting title). And of course, their downside is .270 / 14 / 60, which would really kill you. Same on Corey Hart and Kearns -- what are the odds of either of them earning you $10 profit?

On the flip side, Wily Mo and Church are great values at those prices; their downside is to earn their price, and their upside is Kearns-esque. Gotta love a $17 Zambrano, even with the implosion risk.

But the bottom line is, you're punting two categories (SV and SB) and don't have enough to make up for it elsewhere, unless everything breaks perfectly and you have excess to trade for closers / speedsters later in the year. I agree with 8th place out of 13, maybe worse if Zambrano completely flames out.

I don't understand this sentence "I then got up at 10 am and participated in a mixed league draft just for fun". Was this a mock draft? If so, you have to be kidding me. Drinking all night and waking up early for anything less than a blonde is unacceptable.

BC - I'll concede I didn't draft enough steals. I kind of blew it there. Not sure I can agree my power/avg are horrible compared to the rest of the squads tho. We'll see, but I'll take the over on the 8th place finish.

Keith - I expected Kearns and Wily Mo to be close in value as well. I really overspent on Kearns. I was waiting on the three Wash OFs and was shocked to see their prices. Milledge went for even more than Kearns. I targeted Church all along but the recent concussion is worrisome. As is S. Olsen's elbow, which especially sucks since he was looking good.

I wanted Rajai Davis but he went for something like $7 and I couldn't afford it. I totally wanted him as my UTIL. I overspent for Hart. I like him a lot, but he went for the same price as C. Beltran. In hindsight, I really overpaid there.

if your team finishes higher than 8th you'll be lucky

power and avg looks weak . speed is non existent and no saves.
you need to trade a starting pitcher quickly,

13 teams for an NL Only? Why not make it 25 ?

Impressive squad considering the limitations... Having 3 studs as SP's is nice and it appears someone else liked Corey Hart as much as you did.

You have a very underrated IF across the board.

Olsen and Reyes for $13 combined offer enough upside to pay for.

Nice work.

I would have figured Kearns and Will Mo would be valued closer; Church at 10 seems like a very good deal in that group. There doesn't look like much speed there, and AVG might be a little tough, but I imagine it must be tough to end up with a completely well-rounded team in a league like this. You know it's a deep league when you're excited about getting Izturis. 2 catchers in an NL league is nuts; I guess it justifies the Sloth @ $13. I'm surprised you didn't go for Rajai Davis for a little speed...seems like he could be had much cheaper than Bourn for likely very similar stats (though I have no idea what they might have been going for here). Hart as your #1 player is interesting. It seems like there's a 50/50 chance that he'll be worth $15 more than that, or $15 less. I'm scared to think what the really elite guys went for, and how some of the rosters must have been filled out with more $1 players. It would be interesting to see the entire draft results, but this looks pretty solid on the whole...a good recovery after drinking game humiliation.

I think and hope the D-Backs still view Max as a starter. It might be easier to reach the bigs this year in the pen, but someone in that rotation is likely to get hurt (Randy Johnson), and he's nearly ready to contribute. Max could still improve his command, but he'll be most valuable as a starter, so hopefully Zona goes that route.

First of all, great mini story of your day. Awesome.
Your team looks pretty good. Everyone you spent over $10 for was a good buy. I also like willy mo, reyes, and max. Speaking of which, what odds do you give max of starting in the bigs this year. All the speak of him relieving reminds me of lincecum a year ago.
