Take Your Pick

Often you will find two players who are being drafted typically right around the same area and have similar price tags in auctions. Maybe both will bring back close to equal value in returns. Or, the decision could make or break your season. Leave your choice and thoughts on the matter in the comments section.

Tough one. Probably 1)Milledge (age/upside) 2)Pena (can’t hit righties but big power potential) and 3)Kearns (big disappointment but his gap power is supposed to play better in new home park).

I hear that Milledge is better at rapping, so def not him. Willy mo would be the one I pick, lots of potential, never had a regular gig. Austin has a cap on his upside which we have already seen.

Nice, some difference of opinion. Spicy!

I don’t believe in Wily Mo Cerrano at all, he plainly has not been feeding Jobu his proper share of rum. He still can’t hit a breaking ball to save his life, and probably never will. He could probably torch an all-fastball, all the time dumbass like Felix, but against seasoned pitchers, he seems hopelessly outclassed. If he was even half as good as his rep, I think that the Reds, stupid as they may be, would have kept him at a bargain basement price as opposed to paying Dunn an eight-figure salary. Wily Mo Pena is never more than twelve sliders in the dirt away from a golden sombrero, mark my words. Perhaps he should take up cricket–while the West Indies team cannot really match up with Australia or South Africa, they’d probably give Zimbabwe a run for their money.

My guess is that, of these three, Kearns surprises and demonstrates something on the order of 85/28/95 on a .280ish average, which is pretty nice. Check his splits from last year–the numbers don’t lie. He was truly horrific at RFK, and ok elsewhere. Take away the horrific component and there is cause to believe he can hold his own, finally.

I don’t know what to expect with Milledge, at all. I’m guessing his line will be markedly inferior to what what Delmon Young put up last year, and most people considered that a disappointment, so I guess you could say I don’t have a ton of faith. He could surprise, I suppose, but I don’t see any 25/25-type production out of him yet. Maybe in time.

Maybe Kearns’ upside is limited, but he has far and away the best chance of the three at actually reaching his potential. Wily Mo is going to have to feast on Marlins pitching, because there can be little doubt that the likes of Johan, Pedro, Smoltz, Glavine, Hudson, Hamels, Myers and even Ollie P and Maine will smack him around something fierce.

I’m still undecided with these three. My advice would be to take the 1 (or 2) who come cheaper. They are that close.

Pena does have a Pedro Cerrano quality, good call.
