Take Your Pick

Often you will find two players who are being drafted typically right around the same area and have similar price tags in auctions. Maybe both will bring back close to equal value in returns. Or, the decision could make or break your season. Leave your choice and thoughts on the matter in the comments section.

Alfonso Soriano or Carl Crawford?

Crawford. The amount of players who can steal 50+ are limited to about 5. The fact that Crawford can give you 10-20 homers doesnt hurt you the way a Pierre would. He consistently hits for a high average as well. I go Crawford.

This is a tough call, but I would go Soriano. True, Crawford is a great SB guy, but I like 30-30 potential and more RBI better this high in the draft.

I would go with the Cubbie, and looked to get a guy like Jerry Owens or Michael Bourn later on to compensate in the steals category.

You can always find steals late. You can never find 30-30 guys late.

I would have to choose Crawford. I feel that his homers wll trend back towards 20 , he will give you 50 plus steals guaranteed and hit for a higher average than Soriano. I would love to get Carl in the 2nd round this year. The extra 15 to 20 homers Soriano gives you are easy to make up.

There is still a question-mark on how Soriano will rebound from his hamstring and quadricep problems of last year and if they continue to be an issue this year. If he is over these leg problems, I think he still has 40-40 potential and could again become a top 5 fantasy player. As of right now though, I think Crawford is the safer pick while Soriano is risky but offers greater reward.

I know he’s not a LF (not that it really matters, I guess, as Miggy and Pujols are being compared), but what about Sizemore? Doesn’t he fit into a matchup with these guys pretty well? I actually think I would opt for him first the of the three, personally, but it seems he’s typically the last one off the board….

And Jason–as far as “You can never find 30-30 guys late” goes, you probably wouldn’t want to hear about where I managed to snag BJ Upton in last year’s draft. Byrnes went pretty late too.

Some guys in that class can be unearthed late, with a lotta research and a little luck.

Dream- Maybe I should have re-worded what I said. I drafted Byrnes late last year, and Brett can attest he was my breakout guy all last off season.

Him and Upton are gems. I should not have said never, but the likelihood you find a gem like these guys is so so low compared to finding a straight speed guy late.

I do have a few candidates this season for LATE 30-30 potential. Very tough to find though. But you are right…never say never.

Paul R summed it up well – Crawford is safer and Soriano has more upside.

I had Soriano ranked higher as recently as last week but after reading more info on Soriano’s quad injury (the muscle has basically been forever damaged), I think I’d take Crawford at this point. Plus, he’s still probably yet to have his career-year, whereas Soriano is on the wrong side of 30 and even when he stole 41 bases during his contract-year, he was caught 17 times.

Dreamweapon – Yes, Sizemore belongs in the conversation. He was easily the No. 1 fantasy outfielder through the first half of the season last year. And with his age, there’s more room for growth than with the other two. 101 walks as a 24-year-old is pretty special. I think I agree with you. Sizemore over both.
