Take Your Pick

Often you will find two players who are being drafted typically right around the same area and have similar price tags in auctions. Maybe both will bring back close to equal value in returns. Or, the decision could make or break your season. Leave your choice and thoughts on the matter in the comments section.

Albert Pujols or Miguel Cabrera?

Miguel Cabrera. He has no trouble with injuries. He now has much more protection than Pujols too. Miguel brings no risk to the table while Pujols does. That would be the only reason to go with the safer bet this year.

No brainier here. Cabrera. Brett said it all. I will add that Albert’s reign as Fantasy God is over. He is still a GREAT fantasy player, but I think that title of sure fire best fantasy player in the game has a 3 year window. Much like fantasy football running backs.

Agreed wholeheartedly with both the first two posters. The fact of the matter is that Cabrera has essentially profiled as a young Pujols clone his entire career (hence the nickname “Baby Pujols”), give or take the 10 SBs Albert might get you. He is just now entering the prime of his career and appears for all the world of being capable of matching Albert’s best years. “But Albert clocked more HRs in his best years than Miggy did”, you say. I say that is only because of the home park factors, and the new Busch stadium is nothing like the old, so don’t expect Albert to club 50 again, this year or any other.

Add in the specter of season-ending surgery and that the fact that only the Giants boast a more incompetent offense (Glaus, Duncan and Ankiel just don’t do it for me) than the Cards, and there is a lot to hate here. As others have noted, you simply CANNOT blow your first round pick in any league–the guy has to perform or you are cooked. Pujols’ health is very sketchy, and his team is going nowhere. There is exactly nothing to prevent him from cashing in the season and opting for surgery. Even if he does play through the pain, he’ll be limited both in his own health, and in the quality of the lineup around him. In other words, he _could_ completely crater and give his owners next to nothing, in a plausible worst case scenario, and even if he endures, he is no lock to be a stud. Berkman, Teixeira and Morneau could all blow him away, and each could be had 2-3 rounds later.

Ya, this one’s pretty easy for me too. I could see the change in scenery making Cabrera go nuts too. Playing for a winning team, supposedly in the “best shape of his career” and the fact he’s still improving and in a ridiculously loaded lineup make this one pretty obvious.
