World Series Preview

A little tardy here, but I figured I’ve got to keep my momentum going. And by momentum I mean I got the Boston/Cleveland series right. The Rockies have won 21 of 22 and might have some homefield advantage considering the weather. Still, the big layover can’t help, and the Red Sox come out of the vastly superior league. They should and will be favored to win every single game of the series. No way this Colorado pitching staff keeps pitching over its head against this lineup, but they do have a terrific defense and strong bullpen. Still, I’d be surprised if the Rockies win a game and shocked if they win two.

Red Sox 4-0.

DDD how can you count the Rockies out? What would you make of the Florida Marlins, DBacks, and Anaheim Angels when they won the Series in their respective underdog years? No team has opened a post-season 7-0, nor won 22 of the last 23 in September, had a lower ERA and higher defensive percentage than they have. Give them some credit!

Parting words: What team scored 3 runs off of Trevor Hoffman in extra innings to make the post-season?

    Rockies in 6

You nailed this one. 4-0, no doubt.

Brett – It’s nothing personal against the Rockies; in fact, I’m rooting for the underdog, believe me. That Marlins team had Beckett, Penny and Pavano (when he was good), so it’s not like they were scrubs. The D’Backs had Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling leading that rotation. And were the Angels really underdogs to the Giants? I do get your point – I personally expected the Yankees to win both of those series. But I think all three of your examples are way better teams than this Rockies one.

You are right, however, that they are hot, play great defense and do deserve some credit. I don’t consider them some doormat, and my preconceived notion that this team would fail this year clearly needs to be thrown out the window at this point. But I’m sticking to my guns here, I expect a sweep.
