The Ravens and Rams quarterbacks combined for a 0:6 TD:INT ratio with six sacks Sunday. Both running games got 2.5 YPC with two lost fumbles. Ugly stuff…If you can get 75 cents on the dollar for Torry Holt, do it…Mark Clayton is the new Michael Clayton.
Running back is the most fungible position in football, but it’s hard to understand how six teams passed on Adrian Peterson during the NFL Draft…Peterson’s Week 6 performance was one of the best ever, and he’s already a top-2 player at his position. The only reason he’s not the same for fantasy purposes is because of Brad Childress, who not only continues to give Chester Taylor more touches but is also putting him at unnecessary risk by having him return kickoffs.
Derek Anderson has top-10 fantasy QB written all over him – he plays for a team with a terrible defense and running game and has two terrific receivers at his side. Plus, he’s playing very well and shouldn’t have to worry about Brady Quinn as long as Cleveland remains somewhat alive in the playoff picture…Braylon Edwards has to be treated like a top-5 fantasy WR right now…Ronnie Brown is on pace to gain 2,352 yards this season.
It’s time to start benching your fantasy QB when facing the Redskins. Washington had allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks before facing Green Bay, when the team held Brett Favre to just 188 yards with a 0:2 TD:INT ratio…It’s safe to say few have had worse days than Santana Moss did Sunday, as the wideout recorded zero catches and lost a fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown.
Maurice Jones-Tru: Nice to see MJD finally really break out, and one would think increased touches should follow. He’s simply a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball…Over the last three weeks, Kevin Walter has been targeted 7, 10 and 15 times, respectively. For as long as Andre Johnson is sidelined, Walter is a viable flex option.
The defense isn’t any good either, but the Bengals have major offensive line problems…Not only is Kenny Watson outplaying Rudi Johnson all things being equal, but Watson is a much better fit for a team seemingly constantly in hurry up/catch up mode…If I own T.J. Houshmandzadeh, there’s no way I’d trade him for Chad Johnson…With a strong defense and an improving passing game, one would think Larry Johnson can build off his strong effort Sunday. However, it also might not be a bad time to shop him around.
Take away one early pass to Kevin Curtis, who did most of the work himself thanks in large part to embarrassing tackling by the Jets, and Donovan McNabb’s day looks pretty bad once again. There’s something wrong here…Still, it was nice to see Reggie Brown rise from the dead…Kevin Curtis has tallied 77 percent of his yardage total this season in two of the five games he’s played in…Chad Pennington has a 4:1 TD:INT ratio at home and a 2:5 TD:INT ratio when playing on the road this season.
Jeff Garcia still hasn’t thrown a pick this season, but the only way he’ll be fantasy relevant is if the team’s ground game continues to struggle, something entirely possible if Sunday was any indication…Pounce on Mewelde Moore if a deal gets struck before Tuesday’s deadline…The Madden Curse strikes again? Vince Young has been awfully disappointing this season, and now he’s hurt.
The Cardinals very quickly went from having two options at quarterback to none, with apologies to Tim Rattay of course…Might as well stick with Vinny Testaverde over David Carr, right?
I don’t know what I was thinking taking the Cowboys and the points Sunday, what a mismatch that was, home underdog be damned…Tom Brady is on pace for a 56:5 TD:INT ratio this season…Do you realize that Randy Moss has just nine fewer TD catches than Terrell Owens during his career, despite being more than three years younger and basically wasting the last two years in Oakland.
I’d recommend any fantasy defense going up against Daunte Culpepper, who simply holds onto the ball far too long…LaDainian Tomlinson is going to be OK, folks.
Not sure what to make of the fact Drew Brees looked good yet Marques Colston was virtually non-existent…If Reggie Bush stays healthy, he’s a top 5-10 fantasy player…Put a fork in Shaun Alexander, he’s done. I’ve gotten plenty wrong this season, but Alexander (and Rudi Johnson) wasn’t one of them. I highly doubt any other fantasy magazine had Alexander lower than 11th, which is where I placed him in the RotoWire Fantasy Football mag…Alexander’s demise is Matt Hasselbeck’s gain, as the system continues to put up big numbers despite lacking big named receivers. He has a very good schedule from this point forward.
And now, it’s back to listening (and obsessing over) the new Radiohead. If you haven’t downloaded “In Rainbows,” you need to seriously look yourself in the mirror. After all, Radiohead’s innovative approach allows you to choose how much you want to pay for the album, literally changing the free market (and the world) in the process.
