Mid-Season Fantasy Football

By Dalton Del Don – Senior Writer

Yesterday I competed in a mid-season fantasy football draft. It’s a “best-ball” league, so there’s no transactions after the draft. It was team quarterback and regular scoring (no PPR). Here are the results. With that in mind, I figured I’d unveil my new top-10s – this isn’t only a reflection of past events, it’s how I’d rank them from this point forward.

3. Carson Palmer
4. Tony Romo
5. Derek Anderson
6. Jon Kitna
7. Matt Hasselbeck

10. Kurt Warner

Running Backs

3. Joseph Addai
4. Willie Parker

I like to see you go all out with the Browns… I’d be curious to see if you rank Winslow #1 TE… I will make a run at D ANderson once he has a bad game.. maybe the owner thinks its a time to sell high…

Thoughts on Keith’s interference with Addai’s potential this year?

I dont know about picking Fitz for the top ten over Boldin. Sure Fitz has a lot more yards than Boldin but keep in mind he has played 3 more games. Boldin has 5 TDs in 4 games while Fitz has just 1 in 7 games played.

What are your thoughts on Westbrook? I don’t see him in top 10. Would he be a good sell high candidate?

I talked about the Addai/Keith situation in a previous comments section some, but I’m definitely worried about if I’m an Addai owner. The way I see it tho, is that all of the RBs I list below him have plenty of warts of their own, and I foresee the Colts protecting a lot of leads this year. I.E. leading to a lot of running plays. I assume Addai keeps the goal line role, and with defenses keying on Manning, he should be able to be very productive, even if his touches appear to be more in the 20-24 range than the 28-32. But don’t get me wrong, this looks like a timeshare and really hurts his value.

Paul R – Excellent point. And Warner seems to favor Boldin over Fitz, and Leinart ain’t coming back this year. Last year, it was Fitz who got all the red zone looks – he was in the top-10 in that category despite missing three games. But it’s hard to argue with what’s happening so far this season, and really, I have no problem with someone taking Boldin over him. With those two, it’s a coin flip week to week.

Kritter – I would sit Garcia this week. Jags play very tough defense, and with no Garrard, expect a run-heavy, grind it out defensive affair. Garcia is having a Pro Bowl season – 8.0 YPA with zero INTs – but the team doesn’t throw it enough to make him a great fantasy play, especially this week’s matchup. Any other alternatives?

crap – I just messed up not placing Westbrook in the top-10. Totally a mistake. I worry about that Eagles offense, which is clearly nowhere near what it was in the past, but still, I’d place Westbrook at No. 7.

Things aren’t looking up for Glenn – I don’t think he’s worth the roster spot, personally. I’d much rather Chris Henry. It’s still very much in the air if Glenn can return at all, and a healthy Patrick Crayton would probably be a better option for Dallas even if he does come back at less than full strength, making him no better than the 4th option in the passing game. I dropped Owens down for a couple of reasons – he’s older than most realize and may have lost a step. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s going to put up real good numbers over the rest of the season, but really, how could you not prefer the five guys I placed over him at this point? It’s not as much of an indictment on Owens as it is Moss, Edwards, Housh, Wayne and Burress all becoming elite options.

Brian Griese, who I added and dropped Bulger…

Easy – go with Griese against the Lions over Garcia this week.

By the way – I’d put Maurice Jones-Drew next, I was just a little worried about that knee injury. He’s second in the NFL in goal line carries.

I’d also rank Shaun Alexander #248.
