Draft Update from Friday night… (thanks for asking Kritter!)

Not as good as I would have hoped. We find out what pick we have right before the draft and I drew the unlucky 10th pick out of 10… ugh…

I still think I did alright. Maybe a B or B+ team. Being so low in the draft it forced me to take some risks, so we’ll see. 6pt passing TD league, no flex, 3wrs start league, IDP as well… Here’s how I ended up: It’s only 10 teams, so keep in mind the teams should look deep.

    QB: Kitna, Grossman
RB: THenry, Benson, APeterson (Min), BJackson, LWhite
WR: SSmith, Colston, VJackson, RCurry, James Jones
    TE: Witten
    K: Gostkowski
D: Adrian Wilson, Mike Peterson, Kirk Morrison

Weakness: QB obviously, was hoping for a top 6 QB, it didn’t work. wanted McNabb or Bulger to fall to my 5th round (pick 50), the QB run had already taken its course.
Strength: I guess my RB depth. Was excited Henry fell to the last pick of the first round (10). Pleased when Benson fell to me in the third (30). Ecstatic when Peterson fell to the 5th (50). BJackson and LenDale (who I like) were just icing on the cake.

My overall strategy is to screw depth at all other positions except RB and WR where I try to load up for trades and such. Definitely wanted 2 of the top 15 wrs since we start 3. Forced me to reach early on SSmith (pick 11, my 2nd round). Was really hoping Housh or Lee Evans would fall to my 3rd or 4th pick. They both went the two picks above me, I was forced to settle for Colston. I WAS BITTER… Also was hoping Reggie Brown (giving me 3 of the top 20 wr) would fall to me at 5/6. He also was taken right in front of me. MORE BITTERNESS…

Stole Witten as the last TE taken in the 12th round. Happy to see my plan to wait work out…

Thoughts from you guys? Kritter? DDD? What do you guys think? Here’s hoping to a good season from Kitna (yikes) and a top 5 RB season for Henry!

Sorry to post this here. Kitter asked how my draft went Friday night in one of the comments way below and I didn’t know if anyone would see it or not.

I’d love your input guys. How can I improve? Weaknesses? Strengths? All input is appreciated.

DB – Totally fine place to post it. In fact, I prefer people post these types of comments under the newest article….anyway, I like this team a lot. I use the same strategy of loading up on RB/WR. I like Kitna b/c of his opportunity, but the one worry is that last year he was much more of an asset in yardage than TDs, and the 6-pt per TD pass means that’s really an issue for you. However, adding a 6-5, 235 lb specimen known as Calvin Johnson to the mix certainly can’t hurt him in the red zone, so hopefully the TD numbers will improve this season.

I can’t believe Benson fell so late – but I guess it makes more sense since you have to start 3 WR. Still, great value – and obviously I love the APete pick as well. You’ll def. be able to swing a deal later on with all that RB depth. Your receiving corps looks real strong as well, as Colston isn’t a bad consolation prize. Witten and Gostkowski are two guys I keep ending up with late in drafts. Of all IDPs, Adrian Wilson separates himself the most from others at his position.

    I give it a legitimate A.

I’d give your team an A if you were in a Flex league but I’m going to have to give you a lowly A-. The one time I played in a no-flex league, I found that trading RBs was tough going. I’m just not sure how much good having 5 of the top 30 RBs will do in a league where only 20 RBs are starting each week. It sounds like you really got screwed with WRs going right before you picked. I would try and move a lower-level RB for a better backup QB.
